They have done a great job in CG for this movie. I don't know if you have notice but each chipmunks have different color eyes in sync with their signature colors. Alvin for red, Simon for blue and Theodore for green.

The soundtrack was equally great too. The cover version of "Bad day" took me totally by surprised in the beginning of the movie. It is good that the Chipmunks stay relevant to times.

My wife instantly fell in love with them after watching the movie. Her favorite is Theodore. I guess Theodore's chubby cuteness during the scene where he asked to sleep with Dave really rub off. Guess Theodore is more popular with gals rather than Alvin huh?

Too bad I didn't really get to see any toys of them in retails. Did they ever reached Singapore? Maybe I missed it.

Flashback a little to the Chipmunk cartoon that I watched in 80s. I still can remember the song in the intro of the cartoons. It was really catchy.

Watch out, cause here we come
It's been a while but we're back with style
So get set to have some fun
We'll bring you action and satisfaction

We're the chipmunks
C-H-I-P-M-U-N-K
We're the chipmunks
Guaranteed to brighten your day

When you feel like a laugh
Give us a call we'll give you a roll
And if you feel like a song
Tune in to us and sing right along

We're the chipmunks
Coming on stronger than ever before
We're the chipmunks
Alvin, Simon, Theodore
Do-Do, Do-Do-Do Do!

The 1980's cartoon intro video can be found here.

Somehow I had a feeling there will be another movie. Guess we will be seeing more of you guys in time to come.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-06-25T05:08:34Z</dcterms:modified>

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian

I will not review the movie but share some thoughts after watching the movie.

After the show, my wife asked me why Aslan the lion was not as pro-active like that last series to come out and help but rather wait for someone to seek him out when he already had a simple solution to solve the conflict? That question really start me thinking.

In "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe", it was Aslan battle against the Ice Witch. Both of them are some kind of Immortals (Not Human) and at that time, Aslan was the ruler of the land. Generally it was Aslan was more proactive as the battle was to get rid of the Ice Witch and install the rulership to the Sons of Adam. After the victory, Aslan handed over the rule of Narnia to the Sons of Adam. So Lucy, Susan, Peter and Edmund start ruling and later went back to the real world.

In "Prince Caspian", Aslan is no longer responsible of Narnia (at least not directly) as he already handed over the ruling of Narnia to the Sons of Adam (Human race). So it is understandable that Man have to seek out a solution and decide. Remember Aslan made this statement a few time? "Things never happen the same way twice"? Beside the enemy was man this time round. True that Aslan has taken the back seat but he have to out of respect to Human's rights. If you have watched the movie, you will know that Peter, Susan and Edmund were not really looking for Aslan but rather choose to rely on their knowledge, understanding and experience to try to solve the problem on hands by themselves.

Lucy on the other hand was trying to tell them to look for Aslan but they were not patient to wait nor listen. Peter who plan the surprise attack and it went badly. In his stubbornness, he refused to take full responsibility of his actions and instead push the blame to Caspian. No doubt Caspian action of seeking revenge on his uncle Mirza but did not have the heart to do it was wrong. Have I told you that I don't like the Prince as he is "Sissy" and weak? Guess what? I am not the only one.

Out of desperation, quick fixed solution was offered to them. The resurrections of Ice Witch symbolizing the dark temptation for an easy way out but will cost you dearly in end was offer to them. "You got no choice!" "You already lost so much, don't you want to end all this?" Sound very familiar? Don't do it! They were lucky that Edmund who in the first installment fall into that deal with the Ice Witch stepped in end the resurrection ceremony. In fact, Edmund has overcome that obstacles but not Peter who was blinded by revenge.

After all these happening, they still did not look for Aslan. Half heartedly perhaps but "they got no time, situation is hard pressing them." Is that really so? Or they did not really find the time to do so? Only at the last of their straw, they find the time to seek Aslan. You know the story or the movie if you have watch it. Aslan saved the day.

Looking at Aslan, he really remind me of some experience elderly person who have thru experience gained wisdom but when the younger generation is taking charge, he just step a side. When a situation arise, the elder just keep quiet. Not because the elder do not care but they know even if they do give their advice, the young leaders may not listen and insist they want to do things their own way. So the poor young chap have to go thru making all the mistakes and until they came to end of themselves, they finally are ready to listen and asked for help. There is a saying "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." That is where Aslan, the old experience person step in and solve the problem.

Wouldn't it be easier if in the first place they seek Aslan out and asked for help? Yes and No. If Aslan had stepped in earlier then Peter and the rest will not appreciate how hard they try and gain the experience and wisdom in handling the situation. End of the day, they have to conquer their own giant in their life. Including the prince (I still don't like him at the end of the show).

Of course, above are just my opinion. There are lots of interpretations.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-06-13T01:51:56Z</dcterms:modified>

Congkak the horror movie

Just caught this scary movie last weekend with my wife and we really enjoyed it. We have seen Thai horror movie before but not for Malaysia horror movie.

When I was making my payment for the movie ticket, the ticket seller remind us that the movie will be speaking in bahasa Melayu. I told them we are fine as long as they have English subtitles. I actually prefer watching movie in their original language. We were a bit taken back however to see some children (less than 8 years old) watching that show with us. Even though it was rated as PG, we still felt that such show maybe too scary for the children and they may have a bad dreams. Yes they do scream a lot too. On with my review.

Warning. Spoilers ahead.

The movie started with the legend on the origin of Congkak, a Malay board game. Myth was some special individual (royalty) who played the game make it into some spiritual game and at the end of the game, a spiritual gate will be opened either to heaven or hell by the Congkak guardian. Please note that the above is what the movie said. For the real origin of the game Congkak can be found here.

Anyway a family consist of the Father, mother and 2 daughters were on a trip away from the city to their new purchased house at the country side aka Kampong for holiday. The family was rather divided as the father being the man of the family will usually decide things on his ways which sometime are rather stupid in the later part of the movie.

The father was driving his family car and he lost his way. They drove to a rural place and got spooked by some evil forces which lead them to a house which he taught it was their new resort unit. Everything was fine but the wife felt something was wrong even the house look rather new.

To cut the story short, the little daughter heard a old lady kept calling her name and was lead to a room which was locked initially. There she found a Congkak and started to playing with it. Her dad saw the Congkak and encouraged her daughter to play with him together for a good quality family time. More weird things followed when the old lady appeared to be playing Congkak with Lisa (the little daughter) in the middle of the night.

Shorty the angry teenage daughter who went around kicking stones and throwing rocks in the kampong got possessed. The family sent for spiritual help and she was cured (for awhile). Even after this incident, the stubborn father refused to believed in the spiritual aspect or cutting short of his family's holiday regardless the constant protested of his wife.

Soon the wife also got possessed also . This is the most funny part. The wife was not well and lied there stone cold and the husband can still tell the wife that they will leave tomorrow morning. Hello? Your wife is not well, what make you think she will be okay tomorrow morning when it was not even night time when he make that statement?

The last straw came when he woke up to see 2 daughters gone and his wife floating in the mid air on top of their bed. He freaked out and ran out of the house. Yes, hopeless husband which in the mist of his fear ran for his life leaving the family behind.

Anyway a Malay priest came in time to deliver the distressed family. It seems that in the beginning, the family were already being targeted due to the wrong stop over by the father. The visual effect of how the Malay priest "fight" with the devil was nicely done. Of course the ending was a happy one. Everyone was saved and the haunting was gone.

Overall a simple horror movie and we enjoyed it as it was a different take.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-05-27T02:01:15Z</dcterms:modified>

Stallone weekend

I spent my weekend catching up recent movies. This weekend was Stallone weekend with John Rambo and Rocky Balboa. In my own opinion, Stallone did a good job immortalize these two characters.

John Rambo
A war movie hero icon who make a mark in the 1980s. Many commented this latest Rambo movie was violent. I would agree but it is not mindless shootings. It depicted well the cruelty of war and on screen, it need to be as real as it gets. But what about the children? Hello? That where the movie rating is all about! For those who are of age, you need to know the reality of war. Much more from hearing news about certain group of people who got massacre, guess how bad will it gets? There is no sanity in war.

The storyline was set in Burma and John Rambo had since retired in his war action and became a snake catcher in Thailand. A group of "Good work volunteers" request his services as a guild or boatman to ferry them into Burma to do some good deeds to the local over there. John refused their request initially as they do not know about the risk they are getting themselves into. He finally gave in to their request by the female volunteer whom displayed her stubborn and conviction ( I would said it is stupid for her not knowing what they getting themselves into) of "making a difference".

Half way through the journey they encounter pirates and with not much choices, John Rambo killed the pirates in full view of the group of native volunteers. One of those ideal volunteer still blamed Rambo for killing the pirate without knowing their own life will be ended up the same manner should Rambo had not killed them first. The volunteer reached the destination and Rambo head back home. The volunteer attended to the villagers and shorty the village got raided by the militants. The scenes where the villagers got raided and the captives were treated was cruel. The volunteers was captured and John Rambo was called up again to help to ferry a group of hired mercenaries to save the volunteers again. The group of mercenaries would treat Rambo as a boatman and asked to stay with the boat but Rambo had his own agenda.

Even as age catches up with him, Rambo still can run rather well and can think quickly on his feet. I like the way he used his bow and arrows. The cruelty in the enemy camps look realistic and the rescue was exciting. The ending was expected. Hostage saved and Rambo wins. Rambo headed back to USA hometown.

One of the moving quote from Rambo in this series is "Live for nothing, die for something".

Overall 4 stars from me. This Rambo installment is more grounded in terms of actions and storyline compare to his formers. You may need to have some Rambo background to appreciate more of the Rambo character. You may read more here regarding the storyline of John Rambo.

Rumors has it that another installment of Rambo will be coming. Better do that soon Stallone. You are in your 60s already if I recall correctly.

Rocky Balboa
Many including me loved this character created by Stallone. Flesh and blood character who life is an under dog success story. However as age catches up, Rocky retired from his boxing career and started a Italian restaurant. He seems to had a hard time coping with his wife's death while his son all grown up and pursue his own career rather disconnected to him. Surrounded with his old friends, Rocky wanted to do something. To fight a last fight so it seems.

A lot of element of the Rocky series was put into this last
installment. The classic soundtrack of his trainings scene still remain
(All time favorite. Get you working out). In this movie, Rocky will also talk about some some real life issues such as Aging, lost of soul mate, wanting to do something more in life before it expire, son and father issue.

This movie had a good moving quote when Rocky told the son to deal with his own issue and not blaming him (Rocky) for over shadow him (son).

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't 'bout how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!""

The ending was a happy one where he finally put up his last fight with the current heavy weight champaign. Actually what Rocky was fighting is his own demons. He finally get out of those unhappy thoughts and restore his relationship with his son.

Again this movie will only be more meaningful if you have been following Rocky series Unlike Rambo, the Rocky series came to an end.

For Stallone. He did a hell of a job in making Rocky and Rambo still look good and stayed relevant even as the characters get older in age.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-04-28T09:48:25Z</dcterms:modified>

Elvis

I am a late bloomer. I only come to appreciate Elvis and his works these few years.

How it all begin
Couples of years back I was watching the movie, "Fools rush in" on TV. The ending credit of the movie song was the original Elvis version "Can't stop falling in love with you". That song had many cover versions by other singers but only Elvis version was special. His deep voice and the soft music is mesmerizing. I like the Elvis version so much that I went looking for the song.

Knowing one of my best friend, Jey is a Big fan of Elvis, I approached him and asked for that song. He started non stop sharing about his admiration about Elvis and his songs. Being an objective man, I just wanted that song and nothing else as the Elvis fever did not hit me then.

Second Encounter with the King
I was reading some toy news and read that that McFarlane from Spawn was going to release Elvis figure. It was Elvis Presley (68 Comeback Special). It depict a scene of Elvis on his Television performance coming back in 1968.

I informed Jey about the news and he requested me to get one for him and I did. I didn't get one for myself until I saw the bigger version (12 inches instead of 6 inches) on display. The black leather jacket, the guitar details (I love guitar as I play guitar) and the classic look of Elvis hairstyles all look great. For those reasons, I made my payment and officially owned my first Elvis figure.

More of Elvis toy figures follow and Jey and I kept collecting. Jey was not a true blue toy collector but for Elvis he started the Elvis collections. Naturally he collected more figures as I am a selective collector who only get those that is my liking.

His Music begin to Rock me
McFarlane's Elvis figures were made at different period of Elvis time which capture the moments with his performance normally linking to some songs. That given me the desire to find out more of Elvis and the desire to listen to his songs.

It was around Christmas season and I was looking for some Christmas songs to get into the mood. I found Elvis version of "The winter wonderland" and I loved it. I didn't really know he also into Gospel songs then. The performance of Elvis with Celie Dion on American Idol (digitally done up) add on the interest me to listen to more of his songs.

Step by step I grow to love his music. I started read about his legacy. His music, concerts, documentaries and movies. I begin to understand why he was King of Rock n Roll and the difference he had done in his generation.

I finally fathom the global phenomenal of Elvis of how his music, hairstyle and dressing impacted my father generation. He was a Superstar blessed with good looks, good voice and good showmanship. His LIVE performance mesmerized his fans everywhere. His style was ground breaking but was unjustly restricted due to conservative society of that age. Those who hated him gave him names such as "Elvis the pelvis". Thank goodness his Rock n Roll loosen that new generations. Sadly, he passed away before his time. However Elvis made his foot print and his music are still loved by many. Many still impersonate him in dressing and singing (some even living off as him or from him).

In short, "Elvis Lives" in the memories of his fans as a great entertainer and artist.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-03-28T03:41:32Z</dcterms:modified>

Gatchaman movie in 2009

Wow! Old anime / manga such as of Gatchaman and Astroboy is going to be remake into a CGI movie releasing in 2009. Man I am excited. I just happen to read and saw the preview poster here. Between Astroboy and Gatchaman, Gatchaman will be more closer to me at heart.

I enjoyed catching Gatchaman on TV in the early 80s in mandarin. This anime has gone by many names.

Gatchaman - This is the original Japan name. Some called it G-force in short.

Battle of the Planets - This is the US version and heard it is a shorter version.

旋风小飞侠 (xuan feng xiao fei xia) - this is the only name I knew that time when I watch it in mandarin on local TV. I believe what I watched was the japan version Gatchman 2.

What made them unique of these five individuals were their costume were design from different type of birds. When not in their costume, they will each wear a shirt with their number on it. If my memory served me well,

No. 1 Guy in white dresses as a Eagle
No. 2 Guy in black dresses a Condor
No. 3 Gal in Pink dresses as a Swan (Her name in mandarin version was 珍珍 Zhen Zhen)
No. 4 Kid in blue dresses as a Swallow (His name in mandarin version was 啊丁 Ah Ding)
No. 5 Fat Guy in Green dresses as an Horned Owl

Two things I like about their costume are the helmet (which take the shape of the bird and the painting of bird eyes) and their cape (which gave make them feathers looking). Gatchaman 2 vehicles are more incline to bird design. I remember owning the No 3 one which is a motorbike that can fly and each side carrying missiles. It can be found here.

I remember my parent bought for me a Gatchaman printed shirt. It was so precious to me that only wear it on big occasion.

So that another CGI movie to look forward to next year.

You can read more here for Gatchman data and history here.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-03-24T01:06:13Z</dcterms:modified>

L Change the world Movie

After catching Death note movie, I like this L. It is funny that the lead actor, Light did not get as much response as how L does and when I heard L was going to have his movie own moive, it got me excited.

Unlike the Anime of Death Note in the movie, L survived and exposed who Kira was personally. While in the Anime, L dies and the task was pass to his successor, N (Near) a child who intelligent is equal if not more brilliant than L.

Before catching this movie, I read some mixed reviews. However I decided to watch it at the theater. I am glad that this movie does worth my money. This movie shows a more human side of L. He baby sitting 2 kids and earned their trust and respect. Some made comments that they could not believe L can cycle or being so energetic like jumping on the plane. In the Manga, L does displayed his energetic side by cycling and even playing a tennis match with Light. L is not a slacker although he does walk like one.

Whenever he does something nice to the kids, the gals in the cinema will be making remark of how sweet he was. L tried to walk upright after one of the kids ask him to try doing so. He did it twice in that movie. The villains on the other hand in this movie cannot make it. Although they do look sicko but they are coward! The movie does not show much about L history though.

Toward the end of the movie, we finally confirm who N was and I was a bit disappointed but hey it is a movie anyway. Before L hand over his role to Near, he make one statement. "No mater how genius you are, you can never change the world alone." Really something right? My wife and I waited patiently after the credit to see the surprse. I was hoping that L did not die but sadly he did. He rested peacefully in his sleep.

The reason I think much love L is because of his coolness in handling situation and although he may not look like he care much but in his action, you can see he does care. My applauded to the actor of L, Kenichi Matsuyama did a great job. He will always be remembered as L for sure.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-02-24T04:13:42Z</dcterms:modified>

881 The Movie

I am proud of this local production. Of course only local born may understand the story background of this movie.

I can see the Director, Royston Tan has indeed did a good background study of Hokkien songs and the essence of Getai scene culture in Singapore history. I would consider this show as a local musical in hokkien. The story telling and the acting are moving which cleverly tell the some real events of some of the old singers lifestyle back then.

One of shot actually was a 10 min continuous shoot without any editing. Yes just one takes and the actresses moved from jokes to tears. Really impressive. The special effect were impressive as well.

I have to confess, after I watching the show, I fall in love with hokkien songs. This movie is better than any Jack Neo prodcution. 5 Stars of 881.

PS: One of the song are in my previous blog entry. Ya, just behind this entry. :)

It's really not much fun watching the movie after reading the book. Although I read the book 2 years ago, some of the expectations for the movie is still in my mind. Never mind Toby or even Buckbeck were taken out of the movie, more development of the characters are needed! Unfortunately, those emotion can only be found in the book. Therefore all those who watch this movie should safely assumed that they are the readers of the book too?

Harry was not as rebellious or angry enough compare to the book. Maybe the director wanted Harry to be still "apporachable" unlike in the book he was angry everytime. Harry was angry for being keep out of the operation of the order and everyone still treating him as a kid which that what he felt. At school, he is fighting against the total control of Dolores Umbridge whom she kept making harry felt he is a liar about You-Know-Who returns.

The learning of magic in D.A should be more exciting. I can see Gary Oldmen gave his best as Sirius black, however time does not allow him to have more screen time in building stronger relationship with Harry.

Okay it has nothing to do with the casts, they all acted very well. It was just that time is not enough for character building. For example when Sirius dies in the last scene, does it actually move you? All too sudden right? Of cause as a reader, I saw that coming.

Some of you will be thinking that it is a rahter sad enddings. For your info, Half blood prince will be having more "sad" endings. If it is not because it is a successful book, I doubt sad ending can actually work for movies.

Hm...I didn’t see much kids in the movie? Ministry of Magic stops all entry of year one students? Maybe because everyone has grown up that Hogwartz seems to be smaller than usual?

I dunno, maybe other readers can tell me. Heehee

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-07-22T02:31:55Z</dcterms:modified>

Transfomers The Movie

Only have the time to catch it today with my fiancée as we were doing some preparation for the coming Saturday event.

Trying not to have much expectation in mind, we went to catch the movie. The ingredient that make this movie works are such as these effect of transformation, actions, female beauty, human humor and American Freedom Preaching thru Optimus Prime. It lived up to the actions however the "epic" battle in the city was rather a let down.

Personally I find that part when the autobots were urging the actor at his room to search the glasses was rather annoying but the Autobots were cute. After watching the movie, funny how I only can remember the Transformers name and the chinwawa dog called, Mojo.

Saw the big poster at the cinema and decided to take a photo with my all time favourite, Optimus Prime. :)

Glad that my fiancée enjoyed the show but when I asked which Transformer she likes (thinking that she will love Bumble Bee), she said she prefered the Human who fought bravely. (-_-||)

This has been my childhood song. Never know what and how exactly the meaning of the song until I came out to the working world.

我从小就爱听这首歌. 只到我出来社会工作才真正体会歌词的意义.

Many have found that it is rather a messy show for this installment and I have to agree with it. If it is not because I have play the PSP version of the game, I will not understand this movie. Anyhow since it is the last installment, people will pay to finish the series off.

Warning Spoiler ahead! Do not read futher if you have not watch the movie!

Accused by the East India Company of linking to piracy, commoners of all ages were lead to the galo to be hanged. The drama of the pirates singing before their death fell short after the appearance of CAPTAIN Jack sparrow talking and entertaining himself at the David Jone's Locker. Captain Jack sparrow has indeed lost his attraction. He is not the only one, along with Will Turner and Ms Swann too! Half way thru the movie, you kind of lost who is the main lead in this series as they are too many stories to tell and everyone has their own Agenda.

The Great showdown was a great disappointment. You can see fleets of ships from both side but only 3 ships are at war. The black pearl, the Flying dutchment and the Flagship of East india company. Unknowingly, the great Octopus that pulled the Pearl and Jack sparrow into the David Jones Locker was found dead in David Jone's Locker. We stayed behind to wait for the real happy ending after the end of the credits. The scene that stayed in my mind was the part where Elizabeth Swann encounter his father who was dead in the locker. It was a good moving scene.

As a chinese and Singaporean, two things I was looking out for. The legendary Singapore scene taken in Singapore (kallang river??) and the appearance of Chow Yuen Fatt. Apparently both were rather disappointing. No true Singapore scene get to make it to the final cut and Chow yuen Fatt character had too limited space to preformed. Actually I was looking out for the part where Chow Yuen Fatt to say the famous line, "Welcome to Singapore". This show certainly did not paint a good picture of Singapore and I wondered how much it will boost our tourism here? Maybe we should do the Chow Yuen Fatt way like the picture below to give a warm welcome to our dear tourist. Heehee

Yes! Spider-man 3 indeed can be a good conclusion of the trilogy. Peter Parker turning to the dark side. At last Spidey have a good ally to come to his aid but was short live anyway.

Sandman effect was rather cool but the last moments of his disappearance left an illogical ending. Venom on the other hand only came out for the last 20 mins. It was a cool character in the comics but in this movie I personally find it missed the mark. Must be the casting. Venom suppose to be bigger size in person even before the transformation. However the visual effect was outstanding.

Mary Jane was so forgiving after what the dark Peter done to her. I still do not get it when Harry (Goblin) went to her and ask her to break up with Peter. Without much explanation, she agree to it. Crazy…

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-05-05T02:45:32Z</dcterms:modified>

TMNT the movie 2007

Finally I got to catch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie yesterday.
Being a 80s cartoon fans, I am glad to say that this moive stay true to the spirit of the cartoons. Well not really actually since April O’Neil being easily mistaken as Lara croft. Hey! what happen to the red head, yellow jumper suit new report from channel 6 April?? Well anyway it is not that important since she was a side kick in the movie. Plus she does need any help from the turtles now. Yes no more turtles to recuse her. Yes, No more as she can kick some foot solider's with her new found fighting skills. I wonder who trained her? Yes ladies, welcome to the millennium new lady image.

Luckly the characters of the turtles remain the same but somehow they moved on a little in life. Leonardo has gone for solo training, Raphael gone to be a night watcher, Michelangelo has gone to find a day job as a costume mascot (working hard mikey) and Donatello has gone to do a help desk job (Glad to see some job still remain in US and not outsourced to India ha?). Besides wearing different color bandana to tell them apart, their physic also helps in the movie.

The plot was simple however the villain failed to stand out of the movie. Some people may expect more from this movie and make statement such as “Why the movie just like the cartoon series on TV??” maybe because the fan has grew up however I would like to take on a different view.

I do not expect turtles to grow up just like us in real life. If they did grow up, they were no longer fit to be TEENAGE mutant ninja turtles. I just want to see the original personality of the characters plus some good actions and great graphic. I am glad that this movie has just done that for me. It would be prefect to have the original opening theme in the 1987 cartoon TV series and of course the ultimate villain, Shredder. Funny that I kinda missed him saying "Blasted Turtles!" hehehe

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-03-29T15:38:47Z</dcterms:modified>

Babel the movie

I have no idea what-so-ever when me and my GF went for the show. We wanted to watch a movie and so off we went and chose this movie.
It turn out to be rather interesting showing how in different part of the world the plot linked up. I believe that the writer is trying to show different part of the world of their lifestyle and social problem. The movie covers Middle East, Mexico and Japan. All these link up because of one rifle.
I find it informative but the japan part is a bit over rated. I am amazed by the police in the middle east though. Those kids had a bad ending, maybe because they didn't have much education...come to think of it, i dun think they actually go to school!!
Even thought it is rated as M18 here in Singapore, I still notice some parts were censored....

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-02-19T09:22:05Z</dcterms:modified>

DeathNote is online?!

Now you can be a KIRA too.

THis is another book to movie cum trilogy gonna-be. However after watching the movie, I think the following 2 movies need to redeem itself. To be honest, I didnt give much expectation to see this movie. SOmehow the name is so much like Araggon in LOTR. Maybe another writer influence by JR.Tokien. Anyway after the Lord of the rings, most fantasy movie will be alike. My bet was this will be another B graded "Dragon Heart" type of TV series movie. It turn out that I was not wrong. hahaha

The movie doesnt give much emotional, at least not to me. Battles scenes and enemies doesnt really stand out. However, the baby dragon was cute and I bet for 10 min there won the heart of female viewers. Nevertheless, I walk out of the theature feeling nothing. It was not that bad but it is definately nothing to shout about.

Maybe the novel is better. I do not know as I have not read it yet. Im certain the novel will be in good sales now then the movie.

It was scary enough and the concept do seems believable. Nevertheless there are loopholes to ponder about after the movie.
Warning: Spoiler ahead. Please stop reading if you haven’t watch the movie with the intention of to watch the movie. In fact if you have not watch the movie, none of what I am about to share will make much sense to you.
A new born baby kept crying day and night everyday which the doctors prescribe it in a medical term as “Colic”. After seeking religious helps, the parent found out that their baby was a re-carnation of their neighbor's dead husband who was a ruthlessly leader putting many innocent to death during his services as a high ranking army officer. The unrest spirits were allowed to seek revenge on this child within his 1st year of age. It is up to the parents to keep the baby safe.
The Good:
During the first consultation where the parent bought the baby to a Thai monk. The look of the monk face was enough to tell you that he saw something spooky with the baby and parents.
The mother-in-law acted very well. I could not tell the different if she is acting or not as she was very convincing as a gentle and caring mother-in-law. The part where the mother-in-law involved in a road kill was horrible! Watch it and you will know.
The Bad:
The part when the neighbor’s house was on fire, the mother-in-law can tell her daughter-in-law who was 9 months into her pregnancy to go into the house that was on fire while she go and ask for help. Hello?! Your daughter-in-law is 9 month into her pregnancy and you asked her to risk her life and the life of her unborn child to go into the fire?? Shouldn’t it be another way around??
After the death of the neighbor (who was burned alive in her home), the family can still stay in that same house pretending nothing has happen. Crazy! If I was in that situation before, I would have been traumatized and moved out.

As the days were counting down to the child 1st birthday which should mark the end of the Kama of the previous life, the thought of keeping the baby close never appeal to them. The wife can still asked the husband to carry the child upstairs while it was 11:30pm. Couldn’t they wait for the midnight to pass? But no the director choose to do that to build up the drama.
After the incident, the wife was in the hospital and they can ask the best friend to go to their home with the baby to babysit him. while the husband leave the wife at hospital and go pray to his dead mother. Silly.
The wife’s good friend who baby-sit the child heard strange sound and decided to carry the baby to check out the sound. Isn’t that stupid? Risking her life and the baby life just like to check out strange sound? If there is danger, how can she fence with the child around? Why can’t she just lock herself in the room with the child and await for safety or called for help?
Lastly, Kama. If it is the child Kama that he bears, why other people around him have to suffer as well? Isn’t it bad Kama to kill innocent people? What happen to the good friend of the mother and the mother-in-law who were innocent that die in the place of the child?
Conclusion:
A rather interesting story but some facts just doesn’t added up. Entertaining nonetheless. Okay now you have read the review, will you still have the mood to watch it yourself. See, I have warned you not to read yet you read... :P

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-02-14T07:32:52Z</dcterms:modified>

Death Note the Movie

Honestly I have not read the manga (the jap comic book) nor watched the Anime before catching the movie. I just enter the cinema expecting that it would be like some horror show like "The Ring". I was glad I was wrong.

The story begin with a young man who inspire to be a lawyer found a death note book laying in the middle of the road. With him realizing the power of the death note, he became the author the death. Being disappointed with the justice system of the world, he decided to take upon himself to give death penalty with the death note.

The police was force to take action to find out the mysteries of the sudden death of the convicts and suspects. The identity "L" was in hot pursue to round up of the killer. The Justice movement soon turn to a personal challenge between "L" and the Death Notes Owner.

Overall the story is refreshing and the ending was totally unexpected. Although I have not read the manga or seen the anime but the casting was very much close to the anime characters I found on the net.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-01-02T01:20:18Z</dcterms:modified>

The Host

Just caught this movie and I am impress with the visual effect of the korean. Although only 1 monster show so far but the graphic was almost streamless.

A mutant creature came out of the river and feeding on the humans. Once again it was human error that causes such a creature. Again this creature like all movie seems hard to kill. Shot guns and pistol does not seems to infict much damage to it. Again Police are not doing their job properly. THe family members gather together to save their kid, against the creature and the police. Yes the police too!

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-09-17T15:20:54Z</dcterms:modified>

The Devil wears PRADA

Just caught this movie with my GF. An original story based on a novel about a fresh gal who just got landed in fashion magazine job, which she did not, asked for. Tempted by the fame and glamour of the fashion world, she started to lose herself in the job.

The boss who portray as a Devil due to her demands is insensitivity pushes her to a limit. She travels on a journey of finding her identity.

This movie has a splendid casting, good editing and with a lot of flashing fashion wears. The soundtrack was great too including “Vogue” by Madonna and “Dream a little dream of me” in French version. As like Fashion, Beauty and stylish. A classic work that mark this era.More info about the movie click here.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-09-03T01:06:57Z</dcterms:modified>

The Lake House

In this movie Keanu moved in to the lake house in 2004 and he received a letter in his mailbox from the "former" owner, Sandra from the year 2006. They continue to coresponse with each other thru that magical mailbox at the lake house. Interesting to see the story roll over each other past and the present with a mailbox and the same pet dog.

In 1994, Keanu and Sandra made their big hit together in the action movie "SPEED". I was one of those who fell in love with the movie and even got it on LaserDisc. I was disappointed that Keanu was missing in "SPEED 2". Nevertheless, after 12 years, they are finally back on screens together, both are more mature in age.

Althought it is a remake of a Korean movie, me and my gf enjoyed it as Keanu and Sandra make a good on-screen chemistry.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-08-08T14:12:31Z</dcterms:modified>

TMNT : Leonardo codes reveals.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) returns in CGI as an animation on the big screen. Formerly, the last 3 movies were produce by Muppets by Jim Henson.

This cartoon literally took the world by storm in the late 80s. Just ask anybody who grew up in the 80s if they have heard before TMNT and not only will they be able to name some of them, they can even name the color of bandanas and what ninja weapons they use with each one they named! No kidding.

Do you know what the difference between the cartoons and the comics?

Unlike the cartoon which were more witty and funny, the comic were darker and more appealing to the teenagers with more “actions” (while others refer it as violence). In the comic, all their bandanas are crimson red, which they wore it as a uniform working as a team. But in the cartoons they each wore different colors for the kids to identify them.

Another movie add to my MUST-WATCH list beside Transformers and Spiderman 3 in 2007.

Visit the official movie website for more update.

Honestly I did not actually expect to have a part 2 or even a part 3 starring Chow yuFatt. My gf enjoyed the show very much but was rather lost with some of the part 1 characters which appear again in this installment.

The story turned darker in this series and the characters are more mature and settled compare to part 1. However this installment, the characters bonding was just not there. The relationship between Jack, William and Elizabeth were not properly develop as well. On the scene when William Turner met his father a undead sailor on board the "Flying Dutchment" did not really hit the right key of touching.

Special effect by Industrial Light & magic did a splendid job of making the legendary Davey Jones, ruler of the ocean depths and captain of the ghostly Flying Dutchman look life-like breathing and move with ocean creatures characteristic.

Overall Johnny Depp still does his magic as Jack sparrow which I hope part 3 will give a good conclusion of this series.

I had my dinner tonight watching Kylie Minogue Showgirl Concert DVD which I brought it 3 weeks ago. what to do? tired of the TV showing what super show and what idol asking people to vote throught telco all year round. Excuse me for being carried away. Okay back to the DVD.

The songs, dance, visual lighting and design are spectacural! The crowd was wild and spontaneous as she displayed her songs with showmanship or shall I say Showgirl-ship? hehehe

I must confess that I am not a loyal fan of Kylie as I only like a few of her hits. I saw this DVD in HMV that time when they played her 80s POP hits, "I should be so lucky", as serge of energy just run throught my veins. It reminded me of the time when I first heard this song and fell in love with it. She was a young gal then with a girly voice.

During the world tour, she discovered she was having breast cancer and had to cancel the tour for treatment. Lucky for her she discovered it early and had recovered. She plans to complete her showgirl tour end of this year in Australia.

>> Kylie Showgirl Concert Offical Website

I was right! This installment of Superman Return is disappointing to me. They remake it for the sake of remaking! Althought the casting was good but somehow the story just could not pick up.

It lack the lasting appeal of excitement despite making effort to keep to the original in starting credit styles, soundtrack of superman theme, how they still reuse superman father lines and voice in series one, how superman and louis interact and the ending when superman flew off in space. Even my GF who have not seen the original superman series before also think it lack of excitement.

The only new element they added in was superman have a son. yes a cute one too and that kinda save the movie. Nevertheless, this superman just look too young to be fatherly.

The logic of krytonite to Superman have another direction. He fear it but he still have the strength to lift the whole island of krytonite! After everything he send to E.R. hahaha

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-07-06T12:23:48Z</dcterms:modified>

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-06-20T13:24:16Z</dcterms:modified>

Movie: 仮面ライダー The First (Mask Rider 2005)

Yesterday just caught this movie. It suppose to be a remake of the Original in Mask Rider in late 1970s. I remember how it looks for it caught my mind and heart as a child.

I can see the director tried very hard not to use too much special effects. They used the old song "Sel-ma-lu" as the opening that really bring some flash back memories. The scene when mask rider drove his bike toward the camera and a big explosion at the back was timeless. They tried to add 2 love stories but it doesn't turn out well for me.

Don't expect great acting in this show. The effects and the fighting can also be better. They kinda rob the classic transformation of the 2 mask riders to do the "Hen-shin" thing.

The only good part was I loved the new costumes design.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-10-30T02:44:36Z</dcterms:modified>

Solar powered Car works in SG??

Is solar powered car suitable in Singapore? We can finally see some lights in this concept.

Due to the raise of oil prices, Solar driven car is once again bring into the consideration. The new solar car preformed best even on cloudy days which is capable to move at 50km/hr max. That mean on cloudy or raining day time the car can simply move a little slower in lane 1. On the sunny and hot days, it can travel to a limit of 90km/hr which is okay as there bound to be some traffic lights within a couple of KM. :D

It was known that solar powered car could not function during the night time. However this rule does not apply in most part of Singapore. Singapore's road being so well lighted where every 50-100 meters there is a lamp post, this problem have been long overcome. Riding on the concept that they will be other lighted vehicles on the road it add to a extra boost to the solar concept. Imagine you happen to travel at a low speed due to lack of solar power, the vehicle at the back will give you a high beam to boost your power. Yeah! Just how friendly can a helpful road user get right? ;)

Unfortulately this concept is still brewing due to fact that recent busy issues and holidays. Hoepfully after this week we will hear more about the solar powered car. whahaha

* Please note that the above story is purely fictional. :P

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-05-04T15:33:06Z</dcterms:modified>

张国荣 April fool joke 3 years ago...

It has been 3 years since Leslie cheung death on April fool day. It is funny I still can remember the story of his death was out in the radio news on april fool day. I thought the media or him was pulling our leg. But to me and my brother suprise who grew up listerning to his music and watching his movie, it was the truth. We was shocked and speachless....

Until today, his songs are still favourites in my playlist as it brings fond mermories when I was a teenager listerning to his canto pop on my walkman to school or to outing with friends.

He was a good singer and a entertainer of his time and sad to see you went all too quickly.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-04-08T08:28:39Z</dcterms:modified>

Disney on ice 2006 Singapore

Today i went to disney on ice with my gf, 2 nieces and my cousin-in-law. This is the first time for me to see disney on ice even though they have been to Singapore many times. All I can say it was entertaining! Most of the disney characters made their appearance in this show. The music, lighting, visual effect and the skillfulness of the performers were amazing. Everyone enjoyed it!
