The last time was the on Transformers movie toys. Anyway got hold of Iron Monger toy from the Ironman movie series. The paint job look so wrong that I have decided to TRY to doing some customize painting. Here's how Iron Monger looked in the packaging.

Look heavy? Yes it does but somehow it look more plastic than metal. I know it is cost cutting from the toy manufacturer but seriously they can do so much better if they can do some painting...

No painting on the back as well...

However the figure look clean and smooth.

Before painting, I applied some masking tape on areas to retain the original color. Part of it was the red circle in the
center. It will be really helpful to have a good fine pen knife to do those careful trimming which I do not have it on hand that day. Got to get one later.

Next I used a moist clean cloth wipe the surface of the figure to ensure it is dust and oil free before applying any painting on it. Yes although the figure was mint in box, that does not mean it is oil or dust free. By right I should give the figure a submersing soapy bath but it will be more time consuming for it to
dry later.

To begin with, I got some paint and brushes ready. I got Mr. metal color "Stainless" and "Iron" paint for a start. The model shopkeeper recommended me this range of paints when I was
looking for some real metallic color that give some shiny look..

I started a test paint on a small area of the figure and it does give the metallic shine but the base color of the figure was really wrong. In order to obtain the metallic color, I have to give it a even silver coat first. Thank goodness I still have some silver color left from my last customize paint project on the movie transformers. The first base coat of silver metal color gave look smooth and clean look on Iron Monger. Too clean and smooth for Iron Monger actually.

The real work begin after the
basic coat was dry. I carefully applied the "Stainless" Mr. metal color paint on it. The other "Iron" Mr. metal color was out as it was too dark for Iron Monger even with the silver base coat. The paint dried and set on figure really fast. Less than 5
minutes and it was totally dry. The brush strokes maybe uneven but it was
good thing in this case as I wanted Iron Monger to look seasoned and rough.

Better view at the back also. See the difference of this repaint?

Next was to give some sparks to Iron Monger. For that I have to do some polishing. I used a cotton bulb and start rubbing. It started to shine. I was getting excited and continue rubbing. Then I realized I may have applied too much strength and my nails kind of scratch some of the paint areas.:( Nevertheless, it give more character to Iron Monger. Now it does look heavy and give that "Bling Bling" feeling. Hehehe

Have a closer look.

Closer look with flash! Oh!

It does look reflective doesn't it?

Okay I get the point. I shall distanced myself when taking with flash on him now. Overall this customization is another success.:)

Here how it look beside Ironman Mark 02. Now Iron Monger do look more intimidation doesn't it? Hm... Maybe I should do a repaint on Ironman Mark 02 itself. What do you think?

Well until then, I think I would have a break for awhile. Hehehe

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-04-21T11:26:51Z</dcterms:modified>

Arcee touch up

I have touch up Acree to give her a more METAL look few days ago. I did a major one on Bumble Bee 1974 and I was not very disappointed with the result. However the yellow paint that I bought was not that suitable. Oh never mind, I am an amateur anyway.

I have done some bits and pieces on Ironhide as well. Now his weapons do look more metallic than plastic.

I will continue my repaint on our figures later. Will share with you guys. Stay Tune.

PS: Leave comment if you like it. Hehehe

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-04-21T07:39:39Z</dcterms:modified>
